Jim Tang

Jim Tang arrived in Victoria in 1938. In 1944 he joined the Victoria Daily Colonist and a year later found himself as the sports editor and columnist. He held that position for 35 years until his retirement in 1980. Although often described as "hard-nosed", Jim had a love for sports and had a soft spot for local teams in his reporting. His column "It Beats Me" was a great favorite with the locals. Jim was the recipient of the re-established Sid Thomas Award, designed to honour sports people who have made outstanding contributions through their work in radio, television or newspapers to local sport.
