Like many aspiring pro golfers, Bill Wakeham first hit the heights in the amateur ranks, representing Canada in such competitions as the World Amateur Cup, Commonwealth Competition and Americas Cup.
Canada's only Open winner since 1914 when he turned the trick in 1954.
The term "rookie phenom" didn’t exist in the early 1950’s but "whiz kid" did and the moniker fit Dorothy Wilks (nee Herbertson) to a tee.
