Joe Patterson

Joe Patterson (field manager/coach) led the 1975, Victoria Bate Construction softball team to the BC Senior "A" Men's Championship for the fifth straight year.

The team went on to win the Canadian Senior "A" Championship in the same year (they would win again in both 1976 and 1977). The 76 victory qualified the team to play at the 1976 World Championships where, in Wellington, NZ, they won the title of 1976 Co-World Champions.

Reg Underwood was one of the greatest outfielders to play the game of softball. In 1976 he was awarded the Tom Longboat Award as top male First Nations athlete in all of Canada. Reggie played for arguably the world's best men's softball team in the world and from 1974 to 1984 he roamed the outfield making tough catches look routine. His team, the Victoria Bates, won 10 Provincial Championships, 6 National Championships, the 1976 World Championship, and the 1979 Pan Am Games Gold medal. He made the all-star team at National tournaments in 1976, 1981, 82 and 1983. His career batting average was over 300 and he continued to excel in the game at the masters level leading his team to 2 senior B Provincials, 2 Masters Provincials and 3 Western Canadian Masters championships. As well, Reggie was instrumental in helping young players improve their skills of the game.
