Wilf Sadler (2006)
Bingo and baseball brought the Evening Optimists and Wilf on to the
ballpark in 1958 with the formation of the Evening Optimist Babe
Ruth League. Growing up in James Bay, Wilf had played soccer with
the Outer Wharf Rangers, managed juvenile teams and later, saved
the Vic West F.C. from extinction. He became involved in baseball
in 1952 and was the B.C. Director of Babe Ruth ball in the 1960's
when the local leagues expanded to three. Wilf was Instrumental in
hosting many tournaments in Victoria. For 20 years he was a
tireless promoter of sport and he always gave credit to all those
who volunteered. One of his last campaigns was the raising of funds
to send the Saanich Evening Optimists to the Babe Ruth World
Series.
