The new century saw the first season of Ladies field hockey in 1901 and a Vancouver Island representative team played the Vancouver Ladies team. Major Fred Richardson represented Canada at his 1st of a record 17 Bisley shooting competitions. By 1906 a local newspaper articles entitled " Outdoor Recreation, Athletics and Sport" painted a glowing report of the number of activities and the facilities in the booming city. Aquatic sports and pastimes were featured and also mentioned are fishing, sailing, yachting, swimming and diving.
