In 1890 BC Lacrosse formed and Victoria won the title in 1890 and 1893. In 1891 the Victoria baseball club won the BC championship and this same year saw the JBAA open their clubhouse on Belleville Street. 1896 saw the formation of the Victoria West Athletic Association while the Victoria Wanderers Association Football Club won the BC championship. This same year and just five years after the game was invented, basketball was being played in Victoria. The first games were played on outdoor courts and later at the Drill Hall on Menzies Street.
